John
Herbert – Recording Engineer
After leaving
school, where he studied Violin & Piano before getting hooked on rock
‘n roll, John’s first job was playing guitar in a band in his native
England. It was during this time that he was first introduced to Recording
Studio work. a spell in the military, he resumed his musical career and
was soon working as a radio DJ and moonlighting as a Producer and Engineer
for, firstly, EMI records and later for PolyGram Records.
During the
70’s John moved to Germany and worked as an Engineer, firstly in
Frankfurt’s "Rhein-Main" Studio and then at "Union
Studios" in Munich where he stayed for 7 years.
In the early
80’s he was approached by PolyGram Records and offered the position of
Studio Manager and Chief Engineer with Lion Studios in Singapore. At the
end of ’89 John took over the studio from PolyGram and has been running
it since then as an independent recording and mastering facility.
During the
course of his career he has worked with many top international artists, as
he say’s himself "…when I start listing the artists I’ve worked
with I get scared…..did I really record all these people….. so many
amazing talents…. ?"

John’s credits include many of the top artist from Hong Kong, Singapore,
Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand & Indonesia – artist such as Sam Hui,

Teresa Teng, Roman Tam, M.Nasir, Nittaya, Jae,
Kembara, Headwind, Sally Yeh, Priscilla Chan, Michelle,
Jimmy Chan, Bubi Chen, Bill Saragih, Art Fazil,
Ramli Sarip, Fandi Ahmad, Mark Chan……. and

As well as
Recording, John has also gained an enviable reputation as a Mastering
Engineer and has Mastered many of the best-selling productions from
Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
John is a
member of The Composer’s & Author’s Society of Hong Kong (C.A.S.H.)
as well as The Audio Engineering Society Inc. (A.E.S.)
